A SHORT REVIEW
Xiaomi has come out with many new models of their smartphones in the past few months. From the Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite to Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, in the past year, Xiaomi has only given quality products with envious features to their customers.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G is much more affordable. The model and its design are fresh. As for its technical updates, it has the best technologies installed on the smartphone. All of this comes packaged in a sleek design and at a pocket-friendly price. The plastic frame of the smartphone may look and feel light, but it is protective and expensive.
The Snapdragon 780G chip makes the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G lighting fast and perfect for gamers. The 90 Hz display comes in a vibrant AMOLED panel.
The Mi 11 Lite 5G’s camera is led by a very sharp 64 MP main sensor. It gives the phone its smart image processing function and ensures bright and balanced shots. The shots are clear in light and quite passable at night.
The Mi 11 Lite 5G promises its owners solid stamina and battery life and MIUI software. However, it is often held back by the “bloat”. Older versions of the software become visibly slower when a new update is launched and made available. It would mean the smartphone would need updates from time to time.
PRICE OF THE XIAOMI Mi 11 LITE 5G
The XIAOMI Mi 11 Lite 5G costs around Rs. 26k (£400 / $ 550). With this price, you will be getting internal storage of 128 GB and a RAM of 8 GB. The expandable storage of the phone goes up to 512 GB. The phone also comes with a micro SD memory card. It also has a hybrid slot for the memory card.
The release of the XIAOMI Mi Lite 5G was announced on March 29, 2021. It was finally released on April 16th.
XIAOMI Mi Lite 5G looks very similar to Mi 11 Lite 4G version. It comes in three colors- Tuscany Coral, Vinyl Black, and Jazz Blue. The body of the phone does not catch any fingerprint smudges.
The phone is only 6.81 mm thick and weighs about 158 grams. The phone’s body is a little broader. It comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It may become slightly uncomfortable to hold it sometimes. The power and the volume buttons are on the right side. The phone has a type-C USB and a SIM tray at its bottom.
A Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone is provided to you in the box. The phone has a punch-hole camera, a smart alternative to the dated teardrop camera. The camera sits in the left-hand corner.
The phone’s thick black plastic buffer that lies between the flat screen glass and the shiny plastic film is also indicative of its lower price.
The back of the phone makes a statement with its satin-finish glass that gives you a subtle reflective logo and a distinctive camera that makes the phone look much more expensive than it is.
- 6.55-inch 1080 x 2400 AMOLED screen
- 90Hz refresh rate
- 800 nits peak brightness, 500 nits typical
This model provides you with a standard screen size inside a much thinner body. The MI 11 Lite 5G features a 6.55 inch 10-bit AMOLED display. It has a full HD+ resolution with an aspect ratio of 20:9. The panel allows a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a 240 Hz touch sampling rate.
The device also supports Dolby Vision for Netflix. It is an upgrade from the Mi 11 Lite. The smartphone is HDR 10+ certified. These features are guaranteed to enrich your viewing experience.
A Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protects the display from scratching and makes it extra tough. The display puts the model way ahead of other smartphones that are available in the same price range.
The screen stays bright amply when fully charged allowing a pleasant streaming content viewing experience. This model from Xiaomi offers a 6.55-inch display with a 1080×2400 resolution.
The 10-bit AMOLED panel comes with color support that is capable of showcasing 1.07 billion colors. That is almost 64 times more than its predecessor. You can also get the usual AMOLED benefit to output the true blacks which are enhanced by the always-on display. It also comes with subtle edge notification lighting features.
The phone gives you a peak brightness of 800 nits. It is not top-level but just standard and typical brightness of 500 nits. It offers you a comfortable viewing experience. You can smoothly stream and view any HDR10+ content.
It comes with the main camera of 64 megapixels having an aperture of 1.97 and an 8-megapixel Ultrawide and 5-megapixel Macro Camera. The selfie camera is 16 megapixels. The 64 MP camera takes good pictures in daylight.
The main attraction of the camera is the 1.97-inch wide sensor aperture and a 6-element lens system. It captures 16 MP shots by default by using a 4-in-1 pixel binning technique. The selfie camera is 20 megapixels.
You will get excellent shots on sunny days with this camera. The wide aperture offers you a natural bokeh. The camera comes with a portrait mode which is not that promising. The pictures taken with the secondary sensor might look murky and lack detail distinctively. The edges of the pictures may have some mushy noises.
You can zoom in x 2 times. The zoomed-in pictures look great and do not blur out the image. The camera performance is what you expect from a mid-premium smartphone.
The colors captured by the camera are vibrant. The telephoto macro camera allows you to take great macro shots.
The Snapdragon 780G approaches the 2020 flagship levels of performance. Together with stereo speakers, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G is an affordable gaming phone. It uses a higher grade of processor than the plain Mi 11 Lite that’s available in some territories.
The 5G model adopts the new Snapdragon 780G. The 780G is a considerably more capable chip modelled after the same processing technology and architecture as the Snapdragon 888.
An average Geekbench 5 multi-core score of 2,922 for the Mi 11 Lite 5G surpasses both the Mi 10 T-Lite and the Poco X3 NFC. It is quite close to the Oppo Find X3 Neo, a much more expensive contemporary option that runs on the Snapdragon 865.
It comes with 6 or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The Snapdragon 780G offers a fast and smooth experience. Everything here, from home screen navigation to app switching, feels close to the flagship level.
The gaming performance is remarkable. Even with the graphical settings cranked up to max, games like League of Legends: Wild Rift, PUBG Mobile app runs well at HDR Graphics and Extreme Frame Rate.
Your gaming experience will be enriched by the proper stereo sound here, courtesy of a pair of speakers. You can install all your games, music, and movies onto a standard 128GB of internal storage, and there’s also a microSD card slot for expansion purposes.
MIUI 12 SOFTWARE
- Operates on Android 11 with MIUI 12 on top
- Bloated and sometimes un-intuitive interface
- Loads of customization options that are useful
It runs on MIUI 12 on an Android 11. Though it is a good all-around performer, it still suffers from too much bloat. It comes with its suite of apps from Music to Gallery and Security and Themes. A Cleaner app is also pre-installed to clean up any memory hogging.
Apps like Facebook, TikTok, Linked In, and Amazon are pre-installed and bundled into a “More Apps” folder.
The MIU is a powerful interface that splits the notification panel into dual drag-down menus- one is for notification and the other for control shortcuts. Customization is the most admirable feature of Mi 11 Lite 5G.
The Themes store offers bespoke looks for your home screen. It also has options for live ‘super wallpapers’, which are quite impressive. We went with a ring of Saturn theme that swoops into a fresh angle every time the phone is unlocked.
The option to change the sleep timer of the screen is not In-Display as one expects. Rather, it is on an “Always-on-display” menu. The menu design is opaque and simple.
BATTERY & CHARGING SPEED
- 4,250mAh battery isn’t the biggest but lasts a full day
- 33W charger bundled in
It has a 4,250mAh battery which again, is the same as the Mi 11 Lite, and not the biggest if current standards are taken into consideration.
It is quite a sizable but compact battery. Three hours of screen-on time on a light day will still leave a 50% charge.
If the phone is intensively used for 4 hours continuously, it will be left with 35%. Media consumption will, of course, drain the battery faster.
It comes with a 33 W charger. A mere half an hour of charging will rake the battery charge from 20% to 82% real quick.
SHOULD I BUY THE XIAOMI Mi 11 LITE 5G?
You can buy the Xiaomi Mi 11 LITE 5G if you want an affordable phone without compromising its appearance. Phones in this range often compromise the image quality. XIAOMI offers a still-fluid 90 Hz, but it is paired with a responsive and beautiful AMOLED panel. This phone will also be an ideal purchase for you if you like playing high-resolution games but are on a budget.
THE DOWNSIDES OF XIAOMI Mi 11 LITE 5G
At this price range, a better thermal range is expected from the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G. The battery life, too, is not up to the mark. With its retail price, the XIAOMI Mi 11 is at par with the Realme GT Master Edition and iQOO Z5.
In terms of performance, when compared to Poco F3, which has a superior Snapdragon 870 and a display of 120HZ, Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G is conveniently priced much lower. XIAOMI, however, beats it in its sleek design. In addition, the browser of XIAOMI is no match for Google.
The Bottom Line
If you are looking to buy the thinnest phone with the same features and superior display that many coveted Android smartphone companies offer, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite is a good alternative for you. It will be your perfect companion if you like to dab in the occasional photography session or to enjoy an immersive HD movie experience.
