Redmi Note 10 Lite Review

The Redmi Note 10 Lite is quite a powerful smartphone. It is equipped with some extra features which you won’t find on its high-end sibling model, Mi Note 10. It is one of the first phones to be announced with a 64 MP camera.

How is it different from the Redmi Note 10?

What makes the Redmi Note 10 Lite “lite”? It is the camera system of the model. The camera on Lite has been downgraded to 64 MP from the 108 MP of the Note 10 model. The 20 MP ultra-wide has been replaced with a module of 8 MP. There are no telephotos on this model. These stripped-down phones, however, do have two or more cameras, but they all serve the same purpose.

The premium case of the Redmi Note 10 Lite is akin to those found in higher-end devices. The curved glass on the front and back combine with the slim metal frame to form a sleek case that feels great and makes a solid unit as well. It is a highlighting feature of this model.

The curved display glass of the Mi Note 10 is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The back cover is glossy, just like the front. The back diffuses the light that is incoming and thus creates beautiful colour gradients.

The Note 10 Lite has dimensions of 157.8 x 74.2 x 9.7 mm. They are quite identical to those of the Mi Note 10. It is slightly bigger than other smartphones in this range but does not feel heavy on the hand.

The Note 10 Lite runs on Android 10. It is also compatible with Xiaomi’s user interface MIUI 11.

Aside from Google and a few of Xiaomi’s tools apps, other apps like Facebook, Netflix, LinkedIn, eBay and AliExpress come preinstalled.

Some advertisement apps are also preinstalled. They can be uninstalled by the user if they want to.

The Mi Note 10 Lite supports DRM Widevine L1, making the streaming of HD quality video content much easier.

Wi-Fi and GPS Communication

The Wi-Fi of the Redmi Note 10 Lite is an 802.11ac module. It provides a solid transfer speed.

The Xiaomi smartphone can reach the average download and upload speeds of 324 Mb/s and 341 Mb/s respectively. The Wi-Fi module of the Mi Note 10 relies on the same one as the Netgear Nighthawk AX12 Wi-Fi Module. It helps to achieve identical data transfer rates that are consistent.

The Mi Note 10 can locate the user indoors via GPS. It can reach an accuracy of 4 meters or 13 feet. When outdoors, the GPS can determine our position significantly faster and the precision radius is narrowed down to 3 meters or 10 feet.

Call Quality

The Note 10 Lite has two nano-SIM card slots. Both of them can be connected to 4G cellular networks. Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE is supported on this device. The call quality is perfect.

All kinds of voices, whether it is loud or low humming, are transmitted distinctively. There is hardly any microphone distortion.

The calls can also be put on hand-free mode, and the voice conversational partner during such a mode becomes less acoustic. Otherwise, they are audible and understood.

The Note 10 Lite has a 64-MP camera that has been modelled on the Sony IMX686 sensor. The pictures that are captured are 16 MP due to pixel-binning.

The Note 10 Lite is not equipped with an optical image stabilizer. The ultra-wide-angle camera has a resolution of only 8 MP. Additionally, lenses three and four are depth sensors that have a resolution of 5 MP and a 2-MP macro camera, respectively. Meanwhile, the selfie camera has 16 MP on it.

Despite the lower-end camera set-up, the image quality is quite impressive. If there are good lighting conditions (preferably studio lights or natural light), the smartphone will capture sharp and delicate images.

Such images manage to look very bright due to their high dynamic range that does not oversaturate the scene. A 64-MP will provide much higher sharpness and a higher level of detail.

The Mi Note 10 can record videos up to a resolution of 4K, about 30 frames per second. However, this model lacks an optical image stabilizer, unlike the Mi Note 10, so capturing videos will require a steady hand. Otherwise, the recording may look shaky.

The Mi Note 10 comes in three different and beautiful colour variants. The buyers can choose between Champagne Gold, Glacier White and Aurora Blue variants.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 comes with a modular charger with a power of 30-Watt. The USB cable is for Type-C to Type-A ports. It also comes with headphones, a transparent protective case, and a user manual.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite is accompanied by a warranty card. It offers a 24-month warranty.

Input Devices

The octa-core Snapdragon 730G SoC powers the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite. It helps the device achieve fast system performance. The device becomes highly responsive because of the Snapdragon. It can register inputs very quickly whether you use the touch screen or the physical buttons.

It comes with a fingerprint sensor. The sensor is integrated into the display. It quickly and reliably unlocks the smartphone. It also boasts a facial recognition system.

One of the biggest features of the Mi Note 10 Lite is the 2340×1080-pixel AMOLED panel. It offers great colours. The beautiful and rich colours come from its infinite contrast ratio.

The display size is 6.47 inches. The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite has a pixel density of 399 PPI. No wonder, this phone assures that you can take great pictures with crystal clear quality. The Night Mode will brighten the picture.

The average brightness of 608.3 Cd/m2 in the Mi Note 10 provides very high luminance. The maximum luminance can reach up to 683 Cd/m2 in darkness. Without the ambient light sensor, the maximum brightness can go down to 434 Cd/m2.

The Snapdragon 730G of the Mi Note 10 is an octa-core SoC from the upper mid-range segment. It is more than ideal for day-to-day app usage.

The “G” in the Snapdragon 730G indicates it has been optimized for gaming. Qualcomm has adopted a few of the Wi-Fi features and thus has an increased speed.

Thanks to its Snapdragon 730G, which has been optimized for gaming performance, the Mi Note 10 Lite can run the latest games smoothly.

The AMOLED display has a refresh rate of up to 60 Hz, but not every game may not deliver frames at this rate.

Battery Life

The 5260-mAh battery provides the Mi Note 10 with outstanding runtimes. It can last up to 19 hours, even when the web browser is in use and videos of high resolutions are played.

Even if it is intensively used, the smartphone can easily last for one or two days without having to recharge it. The Mi Note 10 Lite can be charged with its massive 30-watt charger. An empty battery will be fully charged within 80 minutes.

There is no IP certification on the protective glass. The glass exterior makes it quite slippery as well. It does not support the latest wireless standard Wi-Fi 6/Wi-Fi 802.11ax.

The Xiaomi smartphone can reach the average download and upload speeds of 324 Mb/s and 341 Mb/s, respectively. However, they are slower and cannot challenge the Oppo Reno2.

Compared to more expensive smartphones, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite’s main camera falters when taking pictures in poorly lit environments. The sharpness of the pictures decreases slightly, and image noise becomes detectable. Despite this, the camera is still suitable for snapshots.

The AMOLED display has one disadvantage. It uses PWM to control the brightness, which might be bothersome to sensitive users, especially ones with epilepsy.

The Snapdragon 730G’s limitations become glaringly apparent when it has to run more demanding applications or while multitasking.

Graphics-intensive benchmarks like GFXBench and 3DMark prefer the Huawei P40 Lite 5G as a better device for gamers over the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite.

The Bottom Line

If your ideal phone is the one with a sleek design and that takes great and bright pictures you can go for the Redmi Note 10 Lite. It is a good smartphone in the price range it offers. The fast-charging and high-resolution phone is definitely for those who are always on the go and like to capture every moment of their life.
