Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G Review – Price in India, Full Specification

Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G Review

The Oppo Reno 6 Pro and Oppo Reno 6, both 5G smartphones that supersede the preceding Reno 5 series, have been added to Oppo’s premium Reno line of smartphones. The emphasis on these phones is slimness and lightness once again, but they also have more powerful SoCs and new camera functions to talk about. Good and bad. Oppo hasn’t moved too much from the tried and proven formula of the past. We’ll get into this in more detail later in our review.

Battery Life
Value for Money
  • Punchy curved-edge AMOLED screen
  • Good cameras for stills
  • Fast Performance
  • Slim and Light
  • Fast Charging
  • No stereo speaker
  • Low camera recorded video quality

Recently, Oppo’s premium Reno line of smartphones has been updated with the newly launched Oppo Reno 6 and the Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G. Oppo is known for cameras and the same can be seen in the new models too but it also misses out on some of the camera qualities. Constructed with a glass back around the phone, Reno 6 Pro stands out for its 3 attractive colours, Black, Blue, and Aurora. While a lot has changed since the days of the first Reno phone, and the design language has evolved to incorporate a more elegant approach, what remains the same is Oppo’s know-how to create devices that wow you when you see them. This new phone from Oppo gets powerful hardware, that by the looks of it could help it compete with rival phones, not just by its price band, but also a little higher up the retail chain.

Today we’ll focus on the Oppo Reno 6 Pro which costs Rs. 39,990 in India. The features include-

  • A good quality case
  • Sim card tool with documentation
  • 65W Super VOOC charger along with type C earphones which are rare to find nowadays.
  • It doesn’t have a 3.5 mm jack and you get a USB type C cable.
  • It is stylish, slim, and lightweight.
  • Competent cameras for stills.
  • Very good overall and gaming performance.
  • At the front, there is Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Once again the focus for these phones continues to be their slimness and lightweight.

Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G Features Reviews

A 6.55” FHD + Super AMOLED display with a 90 Hz fast refresh rate( this is the same as with the Reno 5 Pro 5G). 180 Hz touch sampling rate with 800 nits brightness( the display could have been 120 Hz). It has a 91.2% screen-to-body ratio and because of the curved sides, the bezels are none existent. You get a lot of other features too along with a customizable always-on display. It also has a game focus mode that hides notifications while playing games.

It has a density of 1200 SoC, which is based on the 6 Nm fabrication technology. It is very power efficient. It has only 1 variant (12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage)

With a huge 4500 mAh battery, it can get you through the day and also has 65W fast charging (0-100% in 31 minutes). But there is no wireless charging, which is a drawback. Depending upon the usage, you can extend the battery further with the help of the power-saving mode. Even if you are playing heavy-weight games like PUBG, you would still get an average of 6-7 hours of battery life which is amazing, to be honest. It also has better optimization features such as Super Power Saving mode and Super Nighttime Standby. These also greatly help in maximizing the battery life of the device.

On this phone, you can take freeform screenshots which gives you more control over it. The combination of Density 1200 SoC along with ColorOS feels smooth and UI is also quite responsive. Diversity 1200 is a flagship SoC and you can play power-saving high settings without any frame drops. Even if you play longer sessions, it won’t get warm and overall performance is very good.

The phone follows a minimalist approach, and at the back, there are only two main elements that cry out for attention. The first one is the slightly protruded camera array with four lenses on it, and the other one is the gradient pattern on the panel itself that is been brought to life using the company’s Reno glow design technology.

oppo reno 6 pro design

The Reno glow design was first seen In the Reno 5 Pro 5G, and it brings a subtly sparkling finish to the anti-glare glass on the device. The glass back covers on the Reno 6 Pro 5G have been created using an elaborate manufacturing process that involves around 50 complex steps, including glass cutting, 3D forming, ion exchange, and etching. The result of this is a finish that is matte in texture but still has the glow of glossy glass.

In terms of performance, it matched up to our expectations as it not only offered good brightness but also managed to reproduce vibrant colours. Oppo Reno 6 Pro is powered by MediaTek MT6893 Dimensity 1200 5G (6 nm) processor and it’s running on Color OS 13.3- based on Android 11. We can also see this same processor in RealMe X7 Max 5G and now we also have the same I’m Reno 6 Pro 5G. Also, Color OS is well optimized by Oppo and there are no lags while switching between apps. Overall, the Reno 6 Pro 5G emerges as a good option if you are looking to buy a phone for playing games and watching movies.

It has all sensors, including an in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock that works well. The 90Hz refresh rate and 180 Hz touch sampling rate do make the display feel more responsive at the moment than a standard 60Hz display would.

It has a 64MP+ 8MP + 2MP +2MP quad-camera setup which looks like a triple but has a camera sensor below the LED flash. The front had a tiny cutout for the camera and a supergiant display at your disposal. Since the display is AMOLED, it gets you an inky and vibrant panel for media consumption. The rear camera can record video 4K@30fps, 1080P@60fps/30fps, and 720P@60fps/30fps. The front camera can record video 1080P@30fps (default) or 720P@30fps.

The hardware is decent but the software is very nice and full of features. It has a Bokeh Flair Portrait Video Mode for smooth and colourful background bokeh effects that look good in videos. It is the same feature that can be found in DSLRs. But this feature is also available on Reno 6 5G and it works the same there is nothing new in the Pro version. You also get SOLOOP templates for good-looking short videos. The AI Highlight mode that was introduced in the Oppo F19 series is also included in this. The Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G misses out on OIS which means, videos may come out a little shaky.

The video viewing experience is really good. It has great viewing angles, especially with a curved screen. It has great connectivity as it gets 5G(DSDS), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi calling, Dual 4G VoLTE, and NFC. It has 360 degrees light sensor that adjusts the brightness depending on the environment.

Image quality

The image quality is quite good. The 64MP primary sensor does take good images even in low lighting, Oppo has done a good job with cameras. The 8 MP ultra-wide lens takes good pictures but it should not be used at night because the images lose out on details.

Oppo Reno 6 Pro has a 6.55 inches full HD AMOLED screen with 1080p resolution. Furthermore, the presence of a 90Hz refresh rate makes a difference to other devices. It’s quite interesting to know that the phone is certified with HDR10+. Due to the maximum brightness of 800 nits, there won’t be any disappointment with the day or night adjustments. The built-in gorilla glass 5 protection doesn’t allow your phone to break even if it falls. Due to its curved design, the model looks thinner with a 7.6 mm thick sidebar. When multitasking, like switching between apps, surfing the internet, you won’t see any lag by its overall performance. With abundant storage capacity, you don’t need any more facilities to expand your storage.

There are also many disadvantages of this model. The Oppo Reno 6 Pro is still missing stereo speakers. The previous model skipped it too, and that’s a shame with the new generation. It has mono speakers which are good and loud, but stereo speakers would have been great. Today we can easily find stereo speakers in phones that cost well under Rs. 20000, so to not have them in a phone which costs Rs. 39,990 is quite disappointing.

Oppo has marketed this phone as a camera phone but the lack of OIS is not a good thing for camera-centric phones.

Conclusion – Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G Review

So should you buy the Oppo Reno 6 Pro 5G? I would suggest that if you already have a Reno5 Pro 5G, you should not buy this phone because there is a very slight change between the two. The Oppo Reno 6 Pro does offer a lot at a 40k price tag but it also misses out on OIS and Stereo speakers and a 120Hz refresh rate. There are many other phones which offer better features than the Reno 6 Pro, and at much lower prices. But still, if you want to go for a new Oppo phone then, I would suggest that it is better to buy a Reno 6 5G because there is not much difference in specifications but still if you want a little better camera then consider the Pro version. In terms of faster performance, you should look for alternatives like the One Plus 9R smartphone which offers stiff competition over others.
